After a year of COVID exile, it is lovely to travel again. We decided to apply for a short-term visa to see if Portugal is for us. The overnight flight from Atlanta to Amsterdam was nice, however mask usage for the entirety was uncomfortable. I’ll take it, however, if that is what it takes to fly.
Our stay in Lisbon was short; basically acclimating and doing some paperwork for the D7 visa. We did get some sight-seeing and shopping in. The following images tagged with “Mercado 31 de Janeiro” are from the market across the street from our hotel near Fontana Park. Yummy stuff! Such a different way to shop than we are used to.
Anytime we travel, we must visit the local market to check the variety of fresh food.
After shopping at the market, it was time to head out into Lisbon proper. It was a beautiful day to explore, but the lack of people due to COVID lockdown was a little weird. “Lockdown” means the following: no inside dining, no traveling between municipalities, 100% mask wearing, non-urgent businesses remain closed, and 100% compliance to all the above. No one here is interested in your “opinion” of mask-wearing, or excuses to not do so. The rules are the rules and everyone is expected to comply, and the people are happy to do so! So refreshing.
